A youthful Forrest County Agricultural High School Lady Aggies basketball team is off to a slow start this season, but Coach Mack Gardner believes the young team could produce big results in coming years.

“We are still learning,” he said. “There is some positives that we can build on, but there is a lot that we can learn from. Hopefully we can play our best ball in February. We need to trust the process and I feel like we will be just fine.”

The Lady Aggies have only one senior on the team, so they will have to heavily rely on Kiona Crowell to lead the way for the team this year.

“Coach expects a lot out of us this year,” Crowell said. “It’s a lot of pressure, being that we only have two upperclassmen. This offseason we lifted a lot and worked on getting stronger. My father played at (Southern Miss) and is the main reason I picked up a basketball. I am learning to be a positive vocal leader and help my team as much as I can.”

Crowell will be joined by underclassmen Imagine Campbell, Alyssa Murray and Brook Blanks, who Gardner said will be contributing heavily.

“We try to work on fundamentals every day,” he said. “Focus on the small details and we are hopeful that it will come together in the future. Each of us will become better basketball players and eventually become a better team. I love each this team and proud of the hard work that they have put in so far.”
